Project Brief

This garden clean in Woree came to us after the property had been let go for many months. The yard had grown right over. Weeds and creeping groundcover had taken the side paths and garden beds. Grass had run wild beside the pool and along the timber fence. The owner needed it brought back to something manageable.

We started by cutting back the dense weeds and overgrown groundcover choking the side paths and beds. The narrow lanes running between the house, sheds and boundary fences were full of growth, so we cleared those out. One lane had a stack of pipes buried in weeds. Once we cut it all back, the artificial turf underneath came up green again.

Grass was mowed and whipper-snippered down to a reasonable level. Along the pool the overgrowth was thick, and clearing it exposed the paving, the lawn edges and the pool fence again. The brick paths beside the pool were cleared back too.

The citrus and other fruit trees along the boundary had grown out and tangled. We trimmed them back and cleared the ground underneath. The trees are still bearing fruit, just with room around them now. If you have trees hanging where they shouldn't, that kind of work is much like this job of trimming back overhanging trees we did nearby.

Green waste came out by the barrow load. We worked through the side access path beside the house as well, clearing the weeds and a sapling down to the gravel surface. The rear corner lane, which had leaning sheet material stacked against a block wall, was cleared back to bare ground.

It's straightforward work, but on a block this overgrown it takes a fair bit of it. The point was to reset the whole yard so the owner isn't fighting it from the start. Once a garden is back to this state, keeping it tidy is a much smaller job.

What was included

  • Cut back and cleared dense weeds and overgrown groundcover from paths and garden beds
  • Mowed and whipper-snippered grass down to a manageable level
  • Trimmed overgrown citrus and other fruit trees along the boundary
  • Cleared the narrow access lanes between the house, sheds and fences
  • Cleared vegetation from the pool surrounds and brick paths
  • Removed green waste by wheelbarrow

Key Features

Pool surrounds cleared

Overgrowth beside the inground pool was cut back, exposing the pebble-edge coping, the paving and the metal pool fence.

Fruit trees trimmed

The citrus and fruit trees along the boundary were trimmed back and the ground beneath them cleared, with the trees still bearing fruit.

Access lanes reopened

The narrow side lanes between the block walls and timber fences were cleared of weeds, in one spot showing artificial turf underneath.

The Result

The block came back from unmanaged to tidy. Paths, paving and the pool fence are exposed again, the grass is down to a reasonable level, and the trees have room around them. It's now at a state the owner can keep on top of.
