Hedge Reduction in Edmonton

This hedge reduction in Edmonton started with an overgrown murraya, also known as mock orange, that had gotten away on the owner. The hedge had grown well above the fence line and towered over the above-ground pool in the backyard. It was tall and dense, and it shut off the outlook.

We came in and reduced the height of the hedge substantially. That was the main job. Bringing it back down to a height the owner could keep on top of.

Once the height was down, we tidied the face so the hedge sat flat along the rear boundary. There was a palm beside the pool that had also gotten too big for the spot, so we took that out while we were there. A few overgrown shrubs went too.

All the green waste was cleaned up and taken offsite. We left the area around the grey-walled pool clear, with the artificial turf and gravel path around it swept off.

With the hedge down, the outlook over the neighbouring rooftops opened back up. The murraya will hold that lower height with regular trims now, which is a lot easier to manage than a hedge that has run past the fence.

Severe reductions like this look drastic on the day. Murraya is a hardy plant though, and it takes a hard cut well. Bringing an overgrown one back to a workable size is straightforward work, but it makes a real difference to how the yard sits.
