Sir Walter Buffalo Lawn Install in Whitfield

This Whitfield lawn install started with a worn-out lawn. There were bare patches, exposed soil and weeds through the grass beside the paving and the black metal fence. It had reached the point where a patch-up wouldn't do the job.

We started by stripping the area back. The old grass, soil and weeds came out down to bare ground. Then we brought in fresh topsoil, spread it across the area and levelled it off. We fertilised the prepared surface before any turf went down.

Once the ground was ready, the Sir Walter buffalo turf rolls were delivered and stacked. We used a compact tracked loader to move the rolls into place. Laying went across the levelled soil, and we fitted the turf around the existing feature plants along the garden edge so they stayed put.

After the turf was down we watered it in. Then we rolled it to bed the grass into the soil underneath. Rolling gets rid of air pockets and helps the roots make contact with the new topsoil, which is what a fresh lawn needs to take.

Work like this is straightforward, but the prep matters. If you lay turf over tired soil and old roots, it struggles. Taking the old surface right back and laying fresh topsoil first gives the new lawn a clean start.

The area is bordered by grey paving on one side and the fence on the other, so the edges needed to sit tidy against both. The last rolls were laid to fit those borders and the plants, then watered and rolled in.
