Turfing Job at a Redlynch Early Learning Centre

The grass in the baby's yard at this Redlynch early learning centre was dead and patchy. Most of it had worn back to bare dirt along the covered walkway beside the building. It needed a full re-turf.

We started by removing the old, dead turf. Once that came up we rediscovered rock stepping stones and a drain pit that had been buried under sand over time. Good to have those back in the open. It also meant water had somewhere to go again instead of pooling on the surface.

With the area cleared, we laid down topsoil and fertiliser as a base. That gives the new turf something to root into and feed on. It also levels out the strip so the finish sits flat.

Then we laid Sir Walter buffalo along the strip beside the veranda, running toward the sandpit. We watered it in and rolled it for an even finish. The stepping stones and stone paving stayed exposed through the new lawn.

This is a childcare yard, so a soft, even surface matters. Buffalo holds up well to foot traffic and takes the wear from little ones playing on it.

The garden beds with tropical plants along the edge framed the new lawn nicely once it was down. Straightforward work, but it makes a real difference to how the yard looks and feels underfoot.
